Yeah baby, you heard me right... I am officially free. Free from pantang, duh.... What were you thinking about ?

Which means, baby Elisha is officially 1 month old already. She is growing very well. Next week will be her first check-up (6 weeks after delivery). Wonder what her weight will be, coz a week after she was born, her weight went up by more than 500g.

Thank you Lord.

Iphone 4S In Malaysia

Unofficial news slated 16 December 2011 as the day IPHONE 4S will be revealed in Malaysia. MalaysianWireless predicts the retail pricing of IPHONE 4S to be around :

  • iPhone 4S 16GB - RM2190
  • iPhone 4S 32GB - RM2590
  • iPhone 4S 64GB - RM2890/RM2990

  • I hope when telco announce the prices, it will be much lesser as it couples with whatever packages telcos are offering. Furthermore, we will have Maxis, Celcom and Digi offering Iphone 4S compared to last time where Maxis is the sole player in the market. As a consumer, I hope in the end, we will get the benefits of it - lower pricing and better package deal.

    Confinement - My Second Experience

My first confinement wasn't easy - I had post-partum blues, Daniel was admitted to the hospital for 4 days due to jaundice, I had difficulties eating the food my mum prepared and a long list of other issues.

Determined to have a better confinement this time, me and my mum made some slight changes to how things work. First, I dislike eating ginger, and you know for Chinese during confinement, ginger is a must. You practically eat, drink, bath with ginger - tons of eat. During my first time, my mum cut big pieces of ginger to cook with, and I was expected to eat that ginger, along with rice and others. Guess what I did - yup, I finished all the rice, and threw away those big pieces of ginger. This time, I asked my mum to slice the ginger and have it fried till golden brown. Its working coz I am finishing the entire plate - rice and ginger as well.

Second, during confinement, people normally cook using rice wine, which was what I had during my first time. And again, picky me, did not attempt to drink that rice wine that was cooked with the dishes, and into the dustbin those rice wine went. This time, my mum did not but any rice wine, but instead, she bought ginger wine, which I found taste better than rice wine. Again, this time, I finished all my food.

Thirdly, Chinse custom believed that we should avoid bathing as much as possible so that the "wind" won't be able to enter the body. Living in a hot and humid country with no bath was something unimaginable. But thanks to the advancement of technology, herbs that was needed to be picked are now readily available in simple packaging. One packet per day, with boiled water, was something which I looked forward to everyday.

Fourthly, I managed to find a lady to come to the house for "urut" session on the 2nd week of confinement. In a way, it helps alot to dispel wind that was already in the body. During my first confinement, I never thought of seeking one in the first place. Only after confinement, my mum's neighbour saw that I was very pale that she asked me to go for urut.

All in all, the second time was definately much better, and I have 3 more days to go before I officially can go jalan-jalan outside.

    D Day Has Come.... Finally

The date is 24th October 2011, and I woke up with a feeling, "This is gonna be another long preggy day for me... " Received a message early in the morn from my colleague, asking me whether I'll be attending the training on vibration today. Thus I replied, "Yes, I'll be there" since I am not giving birth at any time.

Syg was abit jealous, coz I get to wake up later since my training venue was only a 5 mins drive away. This morning, syg decided to speak to the baby, telling the baby where to go out... It was kinda funny, but at the same time, I felt as though the baby heard the daddy's voice because I started feeling contraction there and then. So throughout the whole day of training, I was 1/3 listening, 1/3 replying office email, and 1/3 counting and timing my contraction.

I was lucky coz the training finished earlier. So, by 4pm, I reached home and continue to reply emails and settle some other issues. It was raining quite heavily when I had to make a run (in a car, of course) to the nearby shop to print out something. Brought Daniel back ealier and cooked dinner for all of us. The minute syg reached home, I told him, "Let's go hospital once we finished our dinner."

I have never seen an atmosphere where the two boys were absolutely in hyper mood. Was it because somehow they knew ? Anyway, we had to drop Daniel off with my mum, since we are not sure if I'll be sent back or admitted straight away. By this time, the contraction is pretty close - about 10mins per contraction, which lasts about 45 seconds to 1 minute.

By the time we reached hospital, I was brought to the labor room to be checked for the following: a) baby's heartbeat, b) contraction and its duration. The nurse was very nice and she told us the contraction is indeed about 7mins apart, but unfortunately, the opening was only 1cm. Long time more. So I asked them, "Does this mean we can go back to the house?" She said she will need to check with my gynae first. After giving a call to my gynae, the result was to have me admit to the wad awaiting delivery. While syg went and proceed with admission process, I was lying down, still counting my contractions. Finally, we have our room - Room 249. The last time, it was room 246. Hehehe...

Luckily, TV2 was airing Nujum Pak Belalang at that night, so we were watching the show, enjoying as though we were holidaying. As midnight is approaching, the contraction was getting more and more painful, until I had to ask syg to get the nurse in for a checkup. As the nurse checked me, she was in for a surprise. I had dilated and the opening is now 5cm. I was wheeled to the labor room at midnight, and in the labor room, the pain was getting worse till at one time I was almost screaming while being put on with the laughing gas. The nurse kept telling, "Don't push yet, don't push yet. Doc will be here soon,"

"Where the hell is the doctor", screamed my heart. I knew this baby is impatient to come out, as the baby was already trying to push her way down and out. Finally the doctor arrived and straight away they prepared me for delivery. It wasn't very long, by 2nd push the baby was out, and of course, it caused me quite a few stiches as well. All in all, 40mins in the labour room was all it took.

So, there you are - Elisha Egbert Adolf, borned on the 25th October 2011. Indeed God answered my prayer for a quick and short delivery, albeit no less painful than the first one. This time it was too quick till I didn't even have the time for painkiller injection and vacuum extract. Good sign, I guessed. But still doc has to burst my water bag first, and from my syg told me, the entire waterbag wanted to come out already, showing how impatient this baby girl was.

All I can say after the delivery ordeal was - "Praise the Lord, thank you Jesus."

    Week 39 Going To 40

Here I am still waiting for d day ! Still working, attending meetings and training. Wondering if baby really decide to come out early or will I be induce ? People around me was already asking when will I pop ? I wish I knew the answer, and frankly speaking, that question has started giving a toll on me... Maybe because I thought the 2nd pregnancy will follow like the first one, which was 2 weeks earlier. I guess I had no choice. Just have to wait for nature to take control.

Something To Consider For Those Planning To Purchase Toyota Prius or Any Hybrid Car For That Matter

I found an article which I think is worth sharing around. This article is aimed at those who are planning to change their normal, conventional, petrol car to a hybrid car.

Toyota Prius. Worth The Fuel Savings?

With today's petrol prices not appearing to be heading south any time soon, it is little wonder that more and more hybrid cars are coming onto the market. These cars use a combination of petrol and electrical power so that you save at the service station. And if you have a social conscience, they'll also help save the planet through reduced emissions. While Honda was first to introduce a hybrid into the Australian market, it was the Toyota Prius that made hybrid motoring a real option for fuel conscious motorists.

The Toyota Prius has a small petrol motor and a small electrical motor that work in unison to propel the car along. To the driver, there probably isn't much difference between driving the Prius or any other smallish car. The engine switches from the petrol to electrical motor without any need for the driver to do anything, so in that respect, it's business as usual for the driver. The electrical motor recharges its batteries during deceleration. All these actions are performed automatically thanks to the on board computer under the bonnet of the Prius.
If you enjoy a little power under the bonnet, then the Prius is obviously not for you. The small motors push the car along respectably but the acceleration is not what you would describe as being exhilarating.
The Toyota Prius comes with power mirrors and windows, a CD player and remote central locking as standard equipment. It also comes with dual front air bags and anti-lock brakes.
So, how much fuel will you save by driving a Toyota Prius? Well, you can expect to go through five or six litres for every 100 kilometres you drive. This figure is pretty much the same regardless of whether you are driving about town or on the freeway. As the Prius is not a particularly cheap car, you'd need to be spending quite a bit on fuel around town before it really became economical for you. If your driving is mainly on the freeway or in the bush, then it's probably not going to be such a viable option.
One important aspect to check if you are in the market for a used Prius is to check the log books for regular servicing. As these engines are rather complicated, you'll be best avoiding any car serviced by anyone other than a Toyota dealer. Also remember that the batteries, when they do need replacing, will not be cheap. So make sure you check the condition of the batteries first in earlier models.
If you're worried about the spiraling prices of fuel at the petrol pump, and if most of your driving is about town, then a Toyota Prius may be right for you. But remember, if you're only buying one in order to save money on fuel, do some calculations first. With the higher price of the Prius compared with other comparable non-hybrid cars, it may take a long time before you start saving any real money.

    Daniel's Favourite Cartoon

Like any other toddlers, Daniel likes to watch cartoon. Basically, his fav channels are Disney Junior (used to be Playhouse Disney) and Disney Channel.

I prefer letting him watching cartoons on Disney Junior. I found that these cartoons in fact help a lot in promoting good values.

His fav one is of course - Timmy Time. Once the cartoon starts, he was able to sit quietly, eyes glued, mouth open and sometimes laugh on his own. And we, the parents, can manage some quiet moments... Hahahaha...

I am now trying to download the entire episode of Timmy Time. Who knows it might help during my confinement. Hehehehe....

    Satisfying My Craving Finally

Every morning I drove to work using "jalan kampung" and will end up in Jenjarom before joining the main road heading towards Banting.

This morning, I finally stopped at the junction near Jenjarom traffice lights to go and buy 2 pieces of roti kosong. I had always watch customers patronizing this Indian stall selling roti canai but I never had the chance to really go and try it out myself. Basically it was because I don't have much time to spare.

This morning I was able to reach that junction before 8am. So, made a quick decision, drove in, park right in front of the stall, alighted from my car, walked up to the workers and ordered two pieces of roti kosong.

To my delight, they cooked on the spot, not the usual precook-take-out-from-container kind (which normally what other restaurants will do since it is the most ordered food). Though I had to wait for a while, but I say the wait is worthwhile. I get to eat it hot and freshly cook. Certainly a wise choice made this morning.

Hopefully, baby, you will decide to come out now since mummy has finally eaten roti canai from that stall.... (no harm for a wishful thinking, right ?)

Toyota Prius Hybrid Car - My Next Aim ?

The recent announcement of Budget 2012 has seen the Government extending the examption on the import duties and excise duty to a whopping 100% and will remain until 31 Dec 2013. The previous year was also 100% examption on import duties and 100% on excise duties. And the price for the Toyota Prius was lowered from RM175K to RM135K, slightly higher than in Langkawi due to the 10% sales tax.

I thought previous year was only 50% examption, and this year was total 100% examption and I should be expecting the Prius to drop to around RM100K. Looks like I mislead myself this time. Huhuhu, no new car for me, I guess. RM135K is too much of a sum to pay....

    Bye bye Prius...  :(

    Update on Daniel

Daniel is now 2 years and 9 months already. How quick the time flies. He is getting chubbier now - always wanting to munch on something. He has a big appetite (thank god), so not much of a problem feeding him.

Here are some recent pictures of him ...

Getting Ready For Baby No. 2

Unlike the excitement of getting ready for first baby, this time, is mainly down to washing and cleaning. Basically, we bought all the necessary items like pampers, the first pair of new born clothe for baby upon discharge from the hospital, baby bath, milk bottles, clothes for 1 year old (don't ask me why, but is just that we did it for Daniel, so we are doing it again for the 2nd baby), mittens, and towels.

While the rest of the clothing will be those hand-me-downs. Mum believed that baby will grow faster wearing these hand-me-down clothing. I am ok with it, since Daniel also wore the same. Save our budget actually. Baby cot is there, pillows and bolsters for baby are also hand-me-down but it was brand new since it was actually a gift for Daniel but we never got around opening it for him.

We bought a new mobile cabinet for the two of them. Can't fit into our cabinet already. Let see, what else we have prepared - new blanket, new air-cond (more for mummy's comfort and to save electrical bill actually).

I am praying this time I would be able to breastfeed my baby immediately after birth. I still remembered the distress I had with Daniel for the 1st month. He practically closes his mouth and not willing to breastfeed at all. I do not know whether to cry or to laugh at that time. Hopefully this time, the baby will be more receptive. Hehehe...

So, all in all, we are ready for you, baby. Mummy is praying that you will come out soon, k....

    RIP Steve Jobs

Ironically, Steve Jobs passed away the day after the IPHONE 4S was revealed. Some said it was as though he can finally rest in peace knowing that Apple will be in a good hand, now helmed by Tim Cooks, the man that Steve Jobs personnally chose to lead Apple.

Though I am not a user of Apple products, I can't help but notice how this man's vision and ideas had helped to change the world's view on technology. No longer the word tech is only associated with tech geeks. Through Steve, all generation, be it young and old had come forward to embrace the technology. No longer are they fearful of it, but instead, delighting in every single step they made.

Thanks to you, Steve for not giving up on us, on yourself ....

I am sure your legend, your story, your inspiration will continue to live on. May your soul rests in peace and the Lord comforts those who mourn for you.

Baby In Breech Position at 36 Weeks

It was a nightmare to me to hear that my baby suddenly decide to do sommersault and be in a "breech position" on the Week 36, approaching 37.

Imagined my surprise when all this while the baby was resting nicely in a vertex position, and suddenly 2-weeks ago, the head was at the top. I did felt the baby movement was slightly peculiar that week coz I noticed the "punching" at the bottom of my stomach was rather forceful. Looks like it was actually the leg kicking forcefully. Doc asked me not to worry as the baby still has time and room to turn about, but need to bear in mind, as the time goes by, the room will be getting smaller and smaller as the baby grows bigger and bigger and may end up not having enough room to turn back. And I may have to be ready for a C-Sec.

The following week, I was doing some reasearch on how to encourage my baby to be back at the Vertex position. The safest way was by placing music at the bottom of my stomach to encourage the baby to "swim" to the sound. So I did just that. I put on the music, I placed one pair of earphone at the bottom of my stomach and another pair on my ear (coz mummy also wants to listen to music ma...) and prayed that the baby will be guided to where the sound came from.

I did just that for the entire week, hoping and praying that it will do. I was kinda scared but anxious as well awaiting my next checkup, unsure if the baby is still in a breech position.

When it comes to the day of checkup, doc was asking me how I felt. I told him truthfully that I felt the movement much stronger at the top of my stomach, rather than at the bottom, but I was unsure if the baby has turn around or not. He said, "Let's check if the baby is behaving well or not." This was one time that I went up the bed with an anxious/scared feeling. What if what I felt was not correct and the baby was still in a breech position ?

As the doc did the ultrasound, he first went up on my stomach. As I looked with anxiety on the screen, I saw the leg bone. And immediately, I felt a sense of relief. That was my baby leg. To confirm, doc went to the bottom of my stomach and did the scan. Yes! My baby's head is there, in a vertex position. How very relief am I, knowing that I will have a natural birth, instead of a C-Sec.

So, here I am, on a week 37, approcahing 38 in few more days. Am hoping that my baby will be just like the elder brother who decides he wanna see the world earlier by 2 weeks. Hahahaha....

Thank you Lord, for listening to our prayer and to Mother Mary, for interceding for us...

    Budget 2012 Goodies

The recent announcement of the Bajet 2012 has finally seen some goodies for the "Penjawat Awam". We have :
    • Another 1/2 month bonus, with total bonus for this amounting to 1 month;
    • Yearly increment has been revised to between RM80 to RM320, depending on grade;
    • Retirement age increased to 60 years;
    • Pension scheme increased by 2%;
    • New evaluation system that will see better pay, if one performs.
So, now the ball is in our court. It is up to us to deliver. I am looking forward to the new evaluation system, the SBPA (Sistem Saraan Baru Penjawat Awam). WOndering when the Pekeliling will be released for viewing ?

    What ? No Iphone 5 ?

Yup .... The recent announcement of a new IPHONE was called IPHONE 4S, not 5, much to everyone's disspointment, including mine. I was looking forward for the IPHONE 5 to be announce, and am planning to get one for myself. But when IPHONE 4S was announced instead, I deliberated. Should I get one this year, or should I wait till next year perhaps?

Looking at the specifications, one could say that it is what IPHONE 5 would have actually. The only thing missing is the slimmer and larger screen version compared to IPHONE 4. Inside, it is full of goodies like dual processor, IOS 5, SIRI, 8MP camera, higher memory (up to 64GB), better battery life, etc. So, would I still buy one ? Um, maybe....

Wondering what is the price that Maxis is offering now ?

A Family of Three... Soon To Be Four

    Yes, I am expecting ....

    Thanks.

    God's Salvation Is For All

Today's homily was indeed very enlighting, well at least to me. In the past, we may have heard that "Unless you are a Catholic/Protestant/Methodist/etc, you are not guarantee a place in heaven." Meaning to say, unless you are baptised, God's salvation is not for you.

Today, it is a new understanding. The Church now says that God's salvation is not only for you and me, but for all, Christians and non-Christians alike. God made ALL human being in His likeness, therefore, salvation is for all. The only thing that God will look at the end of the day is how had we lived our life. Have we lived according to God's command ? Treating one another with equal respect, doing good deeds towards all, and not just the selected few, being honest, etc...

Once again, this is a reminder to all of us. God's mercies is for all of us for He said, "I will accept offerings from all, as long as My covenant is kept."

Hurting Your Child In the Midst of Anger

I read in the newspaper yesterday of how a lady (I would not even call her 'Mother' as she is not fit to be one) threw her 2-year old son towards the wall just because she had a quarrel with the husband. My God, the kid is only 2 years old and was subjected to such cruelty.

What makes it even worse was the mother only brought the baby to the hospital a week later after the baby cry continuously. The doctor found out that the baby's left leg was broken, as well as several other bruises on the body.

This woman should be sentenced to jail for hurting the baby. Sometimes I really don't understand how can you hurt your own flesh and blood ?

1/2 Month Bonus For Civil Servants

Well, this certainly is a good news to us... Half a month bonus with minimum payout of RM500. It certainly has been a long time since we enjoyed bonus.

Um, I wonder if there will be another half a month bonus in December ? I sure am crossing my fingers...

Wasted 1 Hour at the Bank

I wanted to update all our CIMB passbook as well as ASB passbook at  the bank today. So, I went and collect my number for ASB counter at 10:39. The number given was 2018 and at that time, it has served up till 2005.

I waited and waited and waited.. At 11:45, then only my number was called. Upon at the counter, I was told that updating of passbook can only be done by the account holder. I had a rude shock. I asked when was this rule set in place. They told me in July it was enforced, not only to CIMB but to all other banks. This announcement was published in newspaper as well.

Well, how come I didn't read it in The Star ? And most banks, if not all, have online banking. How come this announcement was not published in their respective website as well ?

Geez...... I am super duper upset of wasting my time for nothing...

I do echo the voice of Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim. If there is any hiccup in the process, we have to find ways to rectify the problem. Otherwise, the outsiders will look at us and start laughing - we can't provide the help, so others chirp in and start helping but were condemned by these same group of people who could provide help in the first place. Even I looked at it as ridiculous. What's more from the point of outsiders.

    Rasuah orang susah

This was another article that I read in Harian Metro today. Makes me even angrier. Makes me wonder whether these are those people who are trying their very best to create social disharmonious.

JAIS Barged In Into An Event Organized By The Christians

I am sure many of you all have heard about the recent news that some JAIS officers barged in into an dinner event organized by the Christians an NGOs, and attended by some Muslims (like some mafias or barbarians or what) because they said they have sources that the Christians are trying to convert those Muslims.

I duuno whether to laugh or cry when I read the news. Has Malaysia really became that bad where eating with one another was deemed trying to convert them ? Have we all lost our rationalization or even common understanding ?

We live in a multi-racial country. We can't be avoiding each other. Just because the dinner was organized by the Christian group, we do not stoop that low and try to convert people of other faith. Jesus never taught us like that.

If we were to reverse the situation and start saying that when we were invited to attend the Majlis Buka Puasa or some other event organized by the Muslims, are we saying that by attending those event, we are compelled to convert to their religion ? I am sure no sane human being would think that way. By why are those JAIS officers behaving like that ?

You may be the majority in this country, but once you start acting like that, every tiny bit of respect that the rest of us may have towards you will slowly disminish. How can we live as 1Malaysia if the very tolerence we used to enjoy with each other is slowly being ripped off ?

    Selamat Berpuasa

The month of Ramadhan has arrived, and once again our Muslim brothers and sisters had began fasting in preparation of the Eid-ul-Fitr.

So, here is a wish to all my friends out there - Selamat Berpuasa.
May the God Almight blesses you and your loved ones.

    Digital Lifestyle Expo '11

I was on duty during the weekend at KLCC, where the above mentioned expo was being held.

This morning as I arrived, I saw a string of people lining up to go in immediately at 11am. As I was one of the exhibitor, I was allowed to go in first. As the clock strike 11am, I saw these people running for their life, going straight down to G Floor (did I mentioned that in order for them to go to the expo located at G Floor, they first had to passed by MOSTI's booths located at 3rd floor).

My curiosity perked up, me and friend started following them too. My friend mentioned that she overhead some saying there is an Android based phone selling at 50% discount price. Wow, I was thinking, this seems to good for real. So, we too followed the crowd, and I had my glance at the Expo.

Not very impresive, I would say. Maybe because I wasn't planning to buy anything. So I was looking around, trying to see where the crowd had run to. Right at the other end, I saw - they were quieing up to buy not only phone, but also memory stick of 4GB at the price of RM1. Only first 50 customers are entitled. Funny how people hunt for bargain. But in times like these, we had to as the cost of living has escaleted so high.

I'll be working again tomorrow, wonder how the crowd will be again but nothing much to be expected as the crowd wants to go to the expo, and so there will be little chance they will stop by at the Science and Technology Innovation (MySTI) booths.

    Happy Birthday to Us ...

Yes, as I mentioned in my previous post, I celebrated my birthday this month - Month of July. So does my syg and my 3rd sis, who was born on the same day, but different year. Come to think of it, their age gap is actually 10 years... hahahaha....

So, I just wanna wish my syg (Egbert Adolf), my sis (Lai Yee) and me a very happy and blessed birthday.

    God bless all of us.

July - The Busiest Month In The Year

Yes, indeed it is the  busiest month for me. Started off with a 2 weeks intensive training (and somehow during the meeting, I had to go for meeting, or spent some hours fixing problems at site), then followed by a visit to the site by KSU, and my in-laws coming the very next day for a week for a visit, which I had to take leave.

But somehow during my leave, I had to be back to HQ to attend 2 major meetings. I felt back having to leave them half way, at least my syg is around. But still, I am the tour guide in the family, and nothing much can be done if I am away. So I scheduled it in such a way that I am able to spend time with them before leaving for the meeting. Worse come to worse, I'll just set the location on my syg's GPS.

Then the following 2 days were dedicated to them. Brought them to Tanjung Malim and spent the whole day there. The following day, brought them to Times Square and KLCC. Though it was very tiring for me, walking non stop for the past 10 hours, nevertheless, I enjoyed myself as well, especially watching Daniel played in the children pool at KLCC park. Didnt managed though to go to Aquaria since it was already closed by the time we finished hauling the kids off from the pool. So does the PetroSains in Suria. The next day they are scheduled to go back to KK, but we still managed to bring them to Banting, to visit the church as well as to dine at syg's favourite restaurant.

Then the following week were just as busy as before - had to prepare and submit paper, took Daniel to hospital due to food allergy, and working on the weekends as well...

It was suppose to be a month of celebration for me and syg - since it was our birth months, but what to do... We got preoccupied with so many other things, it just got sidelined a bit.

Nevertheless, I am thankful that I am able to live for another year, thankful that the Lord had blessed me and keep me safe until now, a wonderful husband and a delightful son as my family - what else can I ask for ?

Thank you Lord, thank you very much Lord for the so many wonderful blessings you had given me.
I love You and I thank You for each and everyone of it.
    Amen.

    Unfinished Project - Cross Stich

Did I ever mentioned that I had a passion of doing cross stich ? No ? Then it must be one of my least passion. Hahahaha... Anyway, when I was little, I saw my mum spent quite an amount of time doing a piece. Turned out, it took her 4 years to complete it...

Now, as I was doing mine (more like when I had time to do mine), I was just wondering how many years it will take me to finish it. My mum took 4 years, mine was like already 5 years, coz I bought it back in 2005/2006. Initially, I wanted to complete it by October this year. I though I had the momentum to go for it... I even went and bought online (from US some more) additional threads since I knew I'll need it later. Hehehehe....

Looks like its gonna be an another unfinished project for now... Don't think I can make it for the October timeline... Ummmm.... Another failure, perhaps not, but only time will tell...

    BERSIH 2.0

It was held on the same time I had my team building session in Trolak. Needless to say, I escaped all the chaos in KL (and so does both of my Sygs, coz he is just plain lazy to go out without me), but was still interested to find out what had transpired in the city.

I will not post report here as you can read it in the news, portal, blog, etc...

One thing that made me curious - PM said don't do street rally, but can gather in a confine area such a stadium. Organizers then agreed to that idea, but application to use the stadium was rejected. Why give an idea in the first place when you don't wanna give the approval ?

    Funny isn't it ?

    Team Building

I had the first team building session back in 2005 at Setiu, Terengganu. That time, the participants were only from PAN, none from HQ, Planet, not to mentioned even Langkawi.

It was in Setiu I had my first experience of walking in the jungle at night, alone and separated from the rest, (with only a rope to guide me), building a raft and using it while ensuring that we won't fall into the lake, flying fox (scared the hell out of me, jumping of from a tower three four stories high and slide all the way to the side of the lake) as well as some other form of exercise.

All of these had only one aim - to build up the team. At that time, we had already bonded, through some experience we shared among ourselves, so going for a team building was indeed fun for us coz we treated it like an outdoor camp.

The second team building was conducted just recently, over the weekend at Trolak. The place was indeed much nicer and cozier compared to Setiu and we had a even bigger group. This time, it is a combination of all the campuses in ANGKASA. But it was rather tiring for me at least, coz we were already attending training 5 days before, and we had to attend team building over the weekend before coming back to finish another 5 days of training.

And with more people attending this time, got to know and get close to more colleagues, but I am not very sure whether it changes anything in the way we work. I seriously doubt it but hopefully, it will give me more patience ...

Kungfu Panda 2 - Daniel's First Trip To Cinema

I wanted to watch Kungfu Panda 2 on cinema, but was unsure how Daniel will react in the cinema. I was scared that he will be like some kids - squeeling or yelling or crying in the cinema.

I decided to try it out as I really wanted to watch that movie in a cinema, after hearing and seeing the ratings of this movie. We went to Bukit Tinggi on a Sat, wanting to catch the early slot. We arrived there about 15 mins before 11.00 am. Bought our tickets for couple seat so that Daniel can squeeze in the middle. We also brought along his bolster, his gummy bears and some other snacks to keep his quiet. We also bought popcorns and drinks for ourself, and Daniel of course.

The cue came for us to take our place in the cinema. It was our first experience with couple seats (wished we had that few years back, I'm sure it will be very romantic). It was spacious enough, Daniel sat comfortably between us. I introduced to Daniel the "big TV" and he seems excited about it.

When the movie started, he seemed thrilled and surprise - by the sound system, by the tv, by everything... Needless to say, my concern was far off, and watching Daniel enjoying the show was really a joy to behold...

Daniel will definately enjoy going to cinema again... Maybe the next show - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow 2...

    Sabah Trip - May 2011

I knew this post was a bit long overdue (ok, its way long overdue) but hey, its never too late to pen down some thoughts...

As Daniel is now 2 years plus, he had started to enjoy things more and more, and his interest on planes grew. So, imagine his exitement flying on an aeroplane, not afraid at all of taking off and touch down. It was a joy watching him.

Oh yeah, we went back to celebrate my bro-in-law's Sacrament of Matrimony... Congratulations once again for taking the final step to a new beginning. It was a non-stop week for us, started off with the wedding mass on Thurs, reception on Kota Belud on Sat and final reception at Penampang on Mon. That was indeed hectic as the family was doing most of the work preparation. It was certainly a relieve when everything was settled, and for the first time in my life, I managed to convince syg to bring me to KDCA for the Pesta Kaamatan finale on 31 May 2011. Wanted to watch the Unduk Ngadau finale but the hall was filled up to the max, so instead, we spent our time eating KFC... Hahahah...

All in all, an enjoyable trip, which got better towards the end....

    Official Email Account Anybody ?

Came across a (funny) news article published in TheStar online today:

Published: Tuesday April 19, 2011 MYT 2:25:00 PM
Updated: Tuesday April 19, 2011 MYT 2:26:13 PM

Official email account for each Malaysian adult

Initiative is to allow direct and secure communication between the public and the Government

PUTRAJAYA: All Malaysians who are 18 years old and above will be assigned an email account each in order to receive statements, bills and notices from the Government.
The initiative would allow direct and secure communication between the public and the Government, said Tricubes Bhd chief executive officer Khairun Zainal Mokhtar.
Tricubes Bhd is the company developing the 1Malaysia Email project in collaboration with Microsoft.
Khairun said Tricubes Bhd would also spearhead the development of a web portal which would include social networking services, online bill checking and payments.
"Currently, the company is still running stress test for the portal.
"Hopefully, we can get it ready by July this year," he told a press conference at the fifth progress update of the Economic Transformation Programme in here, Tuesday.

So, now we'll be receiving emails from SYABAS, TENAGA, MBSA, etc... is it ? What kind of statements, bills and notices we are talking about here?

Seriously In Need Of A Break

Which means, I want to go on a holiday ! Out of the country, preferably. Syg, if you are reading this, can we go somewhere, please ?

I long to see the St Peter Square again, I long to go Eifel Tower, I long to watch Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding of the century live from Westminister Abbey.

I wanna bring Daniel to go Disneyland, I wanna go shopping in US where branded jeans and bags and others are so much more cheaper than Malaysia.

I just wanna go somewhere, elsewhere, anywhere - with my flight ticket, accomodation and meal allowances sponsored. Can or not ?

    AX.25

What the heck is this ?

Well, for those who are in the communication business, you'll know that this is the protocol for amateur radio communication.

Now, how does it end up that a computer science background student (like me) have to deal and understand with this ? It beats me... And I am still struggling to trying to understand this. If there is anyone of you out there who can shed a bit of light on this, I am very much honoured and happy.

Keeping The Bibles Holy, Just As Keeping Ourselves Holy

The recent spat about stamping the Holy Bibles or Alkitab with serial numbers (as though the holy scriptures are criminal men and women) and the wordings "For Christian only " (which is confusing, as though people wouldn't know that Bibles are meant for Christians until they need to see the sentence) and also "By The Order Of The Minister" (wa, now man can dictate Bible is it ? ) is very disturbing and I personally and strongly reject this kind of injustice call.

"There is no compulsion in religion" - is a phrase I remembered very clearly from a friend of mine who converted to Islam.

The 10-points resolution proposed by the Government is indeed a step forward to solving this problem. My question is - how permanent is that step ? And why must it be a bias act between Penisular and Sabah Sarawak ? Why can the bibles in Sabah Sarawak not stamped but for those that will be circulating in Penisular, it must be stamped ? Are we implying that the people in Peninsular does not know the national language very well ?

I sincerely hope that in spirit of 1Malaysia, everyone will be allowed the same courtesy to worship in their respective religion. And the holy books of any religion should just be kept holy, and not desecrated in any way as it is disrespecful.

And let us try to be holy men and women as well, and "DO UNTO OTHERS AS WE WOULD LIKE OTHERS TO DO UNTO US".

    Political Change in Sarawak?

Many of you knows what had happened in Sarawak during the state's general election. While many (especially our political leaders) had hoped that they win BIG TIME in Sarawak, seeing that it is one of their safe deposit, it turned out far cry than what was expected.

The Chinese obviously proved them wrong by voting DAP. And the Ibans also had a few words to say. Many seems to be very unhappy with the current Chief Minister, who, by the way, had rule Sarawak for 30 years. Even I think it's high time that someone else, a fresh new face, be appointed to lead the state. I can't be sure that he has not done any good to the state, but staying in power for so long, there are bound to be questioning here and there.

Initially, I thought BN will win big time in Sarawak, and that will pave way for the next general election. Looks like there is gonna be more work to win back the people's trust before doing anything.

    "Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan"

Time to see the first one being implemented in a more fruitful and forceful way.

Holy Week Is Just Around The Corner

Can't believe it that we are almost towards the end of Lent season, and beginning of the Holy Week. Speaking of Lent season, tomorrow there will be Way of The Cross in GKF, followed by mass. Hope we'll be there on time, though I doubt it very much that we can actually reach there before the start of Way of the Cross. Its usually before the start of mass (or end of Way of the Cross) that we finally arrived.

Don't forget to go for your penitential service. Happy fasting, people and GOD bless!

1 New Year Resolution Not Fulfilled

You must be wondering which resolution that I had failed to keep. Its blogging! I made a resolution to blog at least 12 times a month, and I just realized that the whole of March passed by without a single entry. You must be dissapointed with me, yeah ? I know, coz I am too....  *sob**sob*

Anyway, I am glad to post this entry, though we are already half way in April. There are lots of things that I wanna talk about, blog about, but .......  (this time, I am even too lazy to type out the excuses)

So, I am back ! I am alive ... (or so I'll like to be now, as I am caughing my lungs out)

Fever oh Fever, Go Away and Never Come Again Any Other Day

I do wish this fever, back ache, tonsil pain and gum pain near wisdom tooth will all go away. Is there any wishing well nearby so that I can make my wish ?

I am feeling so horrible right now, I just wish I can lie down and sleep. Unfortunately, I am due to meet a fork lift supplier.

Body oh body, why do you feel so terrible ?

    Happy Valentine's Day, People !

Yup, it is the day of love today ... What have you planned with your loved ones ?

As for me, I wanted to bake my sygs a chocolate moist cake. So, last whole week, I was scouting on the internet for the perfect (read, easiest) recipe and I found one that is basically dump and pour. How hard can that be, right ?

So, on Sat, I went out to get the ingredients, though having fever, I continued on. Actually, I drove my mum and my sis to Taylor's University Lakeside Campus, to enquire about this course that my sis wants to enrol in. So, before reaching home, we stopped by at Carrefour to picked out the ingredients.

Later that night, as I find myself still capable of doing something, I started to bake the cake. Mixing and pouring it was easy, but it took kinda long to bake it, probably because my oven only has a maximum temperature of 250C where else the instruction said to bake it at 350C.

Still, I managed to bake it for almost an hour, made the chocolate topping, and voila, my cake is ready. Thank goodness I decided to bake it on Sat as I was totally incapable of doing anything on Sun.

So, that's my Valentine present to my to sygs... Hope they'll love the effort and love I put in. Hehehehe...

p/s: Wonder whose dumb idea was that, that says Valentine's Day is associate with Christianity ? Hello ? Catholics never celebrate this day as a Feast Day, whatsoever. Please don't simple say things when you wouldn't even know the background of it. And teach your children that everyday should be a Valentine Day, by showing love and affection to your parents... Valentine is not only for your bf or gf, k.

    Old Relics at Kampar Temple

Notice the difference between the first two pictures and the third one ? Yeah, the relics that were on the roof of the temple. There were claims that the old relics were taken and sold off, and the new relics that were installed were no way as precious as the old ones. Um, wonder if it were true ?

    Daniel's First Celebration of CNY

Taken at Ipoh on the first day of Chinese New Year 2011. On Daniel's right hand side was his second cousin, Rachel Woo. On his left hand side was his great-grandmother (my paternal grandmother)

Next, we went to the graveyard, to pay respect to my maternal grand-mother, who when was alive nicknamed Daniel as "Tai Ngau" (a.k.a Big Cow)

Two families were there, my mum's and my aunt's. The photographer was syg (which explained why he wasn't in the picture)

    The Joy Of Watching Daniel

These pictures were taken at Universal Studio Singapore during our last trip on December 2010. It was basically Daniel's first time to the Lion's City, and his first time coming across a fountain. He got a few suprises whenever the water starts "shooting" out but he was squelling with delight. It was definately moments to be remembered, watching him running around and getting wet...  Hehehehe....

    Layman's 10 Commandment

Got this from a friend of mine, and felt that it is worth sharing.

    Commandment 1:
Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

    Commandment 2:
So a car's "windshield" is so large and the "rear view" mirros is so small ? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, LOOK AHEAD and MOVE ON.

    Commandment 3:
Friendship is like a book. It takes few seconds to burn, but few year to write.

    Commandment 4:
All things in life is temporary. If it goes well, enjoy it for they will not last forever. If it goes wrong, don't worry! They don't last long either.

    Commandment 5:
Old friends are Gold! New friends are Diamond. If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a base of Gold!

    Commandment 6:
Often when we lose hope and think that this is the end, God smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!"

    Commandment 7:
When God solves your problems, you have faith in His abilities. When GOD doesn't solve your problems, it is because He has faith in your abilities.

    Commandment 8:
A blind person asked St. Anthony, "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight ?" He replied, "Yes, losing your vision!"

    Commandment 9:
When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.

    Commandment 10:
Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles, it takes away today's peace. So, stop worrying!

    Gong Xi Fa Cai ....

The season is here again. This will be the first year for Daniel to celebrate his first ever CNY in Ipoh. Last year we couldnt celebrate due to the demise of my late grandmother. This year, we plan to stay for 2 days in Ipoh, then we'll travel down to Tanjung Malim to gather at my bro-in-law's place. Egbert has planned to go swimming in the "sungai" and this time, he vowed to catch some fishes back. Let's see....

So, to all of you who will be celebrating Chinese New Year, we (Egbert, me and Daniel) would like to wish you and your loved ones

A HAPPY AND PROPEROUS NEW YEAR

A Day Of Rest And Doing Nothing

It is good to have a day of rest on anyday of the week (except Sat and Sun, of course, because it is already rest days for me). I get to wake up late, laze around, and practically do nothing, except house chores and looking after Daniel.

Yesterday, was the first day of the year that we had a day of rest right smack in the middle of the week. And what did I do ? Get up, take my bath, bath Daniel, cook, feed the two big guys, then cross stich, and then water the plants, cook, eat, bath and sleep. I think it was nice, staying at home and basically doing all the things that I left idling for so long in the closet. Syg was busy trying to finish up his Titanic Project.

All in all, it was fabulous staying in .... Wonder when is the next holiday coming ? Ummmm......

    "Do Not Insult Our Intelligence"

    By Koh Lay Chin
    01 April 2010

(All pics below courtesy of Sheila Majid)

ONE of Malaysia’s most beloved singers, Datuk Sheila Majid has been wowing fans with her jazzy and R&B-flavoured brand of contemporary pop since the 1980s. From the release of her debut album Dimensi Baru in 1988 to the bestselling Legenda in honour of the late Tan Sri P Ramlee, she has continued to break records through the years.

She was the first Malaysian artiste to have success in Japan, and perform a sold-out concert at the Royal Theatre in London’s West End in 1996. She was also the first local artiste to perform at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas.

She tells The Nut Graph about her childhood, and her thoughts about Malaysia past and present, in this interview in February 2010.

TNG: When and where were you born?

Sheila Majid: I was born in Kuala Lumpur, 45 years ago. I’m a born and bred KL city girl. I remember less traffic jams back then, and life being much [safer]. I could wake up in the morning, go out cycling and meet friends, go to the bookstores and read comics.

What are some of the childhood memories you hold dear?

My childhood was a lot of fun. My father worked in the forestry department, with the government. So we lived in a government house behind Bank Negara, near Swettenham Road. There was a lot of space to play for us eight siblings. Thank God we were in the hutan — we found many things to do.

I was the youngest, so had my fair share of being bullied! But it was a house full of laughter. We didn’t have to buy stuff. Nowadays kids want Toys”R”Us, but I remember my mother would come with this huge grocery box, and as soon as the things were taken out, we would tear that box apart. We’d sit on it and slide down the hill. I really miss those days. Somehow I feel my children don’t get to do that.

We were also in an area where there were many JKR (Public Works Department) people, so we played with the neighbourhood kids a lot, most of them Indian [Malaysians].

    Sheila (right) with her sister

When I was young and in school, we never looked at other races as different. We felt that we were the same. Perhaps we had different colours, but we grew up with the same values: to do good, to be good to others.

Can you trace your ancestry? Where are your grandparents or ancestors from?

My father was Javanese, and my mother has always been from Kuala Lumpur. My mother’s great-great grandfather was actually a friend of Yap Ah Loy‘s. His name was Sutan Puasa, and is from the Mandailing clan, who are originally from Sumatera. The Mandailing are still around today; most of them are in Kajang. Sutan Puasa was the first of their settlers in KL, and most of the land was owned by him at the time. Later, he was involved in a clash with the Bugis. But the Mandailing lost because the British were behind the Bugis, and so they lost KL to Selangor.

The history books never highlighted this because, well, they obviously write more about the Bugis family. I know why Bukit Nenas is named as such, for example. At the time the Mandailing wanted to keep the Bugis out, so they built many pineapple trees as a foil against the enemies.

If my family meets any others from the Mandailing clan today, we say “Horas!”, which is like “Aloha” in the dialect, though we don’t know or speak it anymore lah.

On my father’s side, my great-grandfather was Javanese, who travelled to Mecca from Indonesia. They lived in Mecca for 10 years and were very religious. On his way back, my great-grandfather’s ship was shipwrecked, and he ended up on the shores of Peninsular Malaysia. He set up home here, and changed his Javanese name to Haji Salleh. Then there was my grandfather Haji Shahid, and later my father Haji Majid.

My father actually has a family tree that goes right up to the Majapahit warriors. My father’s lineage comes from Raden Hussein, who is the brother of Raden Hasan, the first Muslim sultan of Demak in Indonesia. Both were the sons of Probowo Wijoyo the Fifth of Majapahit, who was Hindu.

    Sheila’s parents

Did that rich ancestry feature in or influence your upbringing?

Well, my father studied in Oxford University, England, so he is very English oriented. When we grew up he emphasised education, being an academic person. Therefore when I wanted to become a singer, he freaked. My parents encouraged us to listen to all kinds of music and sent me for classical piano lessons, but he never thought I was going to be a singer. He thought it was fine as a hobby, but not as a career.

I’m glad to say, however, that before he passed away in 1996, he saw that I could make a living out of this, and that I was not in it for the wrong reasons. I love singing, I’m passionate about music, and am very much into my art. So I think when he passed away, he was quite assured that I’d be okay.

Our parents were very religious, and we had our spiritual foundation, but they also brought us up in a very open-minded kind of way. When we were young, we could wear shorts and things like that, they never asked us to cover up. It was a very balanced upbringing.

How do these stories affect you when it comes to your identity as a Malaysian? Especially in the current landscape of controversial racial and religious issues?

    Performing in the 80s.

Sheila’s dress says “Central Market KL” It’s all petty. None of us originated from here! I’m sure your ancestors came from China and they were probably merchants who came here. Same with the Indian [Malaysians]. Everybody was travelling the world to conduct business, and they decided to stay put in a certain area.

I think all the issues today are very petty because 30 years ago, we were doing very good together. Why is it all coming up today? It is all political. I’d say leave the people alone. If you want to play your politics, don’t get us involved. We were fine and well before, and we lived together in harmony. It’s all about power and money. I think so many have forgotten the fundamentals of life — being nice to each other.

The Malaysia then was more open and tolerant. From a musician’s perspective, for example, you have concerts and foreign artists coming in today, but people want to make a fuss over little things. We have a TV in our living room, and at the touch of a button our children can already see all those skimpy clothes if they want to. We are making an issue over little things, when there are other more important issues to be addressed.

Come on, do not insult our intelligence. Do you think they will go to a concert and suddenly want to be exactly like that? I may want to have a body like Beyonce (laughs), but, come on, I’m not going to be like her. I go and watch, learn and take what’s positive, and will not do whatever I feel is against my religion or culture. My parents brought us up in an environment which was very open-minded, and we could discuss a lot of things, and yet they made sure we had our religious values, too. We grew up okay!

    And not less Malay.

I was brought up and exposed to Western culture, but it does not make me less Malay. I speak English because my father was an academic man, and he wanted us to speak the language well. Today I can converse in both Malay and English.

Why was the generation before more confident than the generation today? What happened along the way? For my children, we speak Malay and English at home, but I also send them to Chinese school. My eldest is 19 and speaks Mandarin, English and Malay. They will all know Mandarin. I think it’s an asset, and I think China is going to be a big economic powerhouse.

And say what you want, but English is an international language today. Malay [Malaysians] are beginning to have an inferiority complex because they cannot converse in English fluently. We are talking about, “Oh you must make sure you are Malay, and know your language.” Well, of course we will know the Malay language, it is our mother tongue! At the end of the day, we are just going to be katak bawah tempurung and jaguh kampung lah.

What are your hopes for Malaysia? What gives you hope?

Keep politics out of our music, keep it out of sports. When everyone wants to put their two cents’ worth when they don’t even know the subject, it is worrying.

Let us put it this way: there are two houses. One has a beautiful exterior, but the other is sturdy. If you ask a lay[person], of course he [or she] would pick the beautiful one; but ask an architect, and he [or she] would tell you that it does not have the right foundation or structure. Today people with no expertise whatsoever are giving opinions in whatever fields they like. Leave it to the experts!

I am not saying everything is negative in this country, but compared to 30 years ago, people’s priorities are so different. Today people are more into self gain, rather than what is good for the community, society and country. But my children give me hope. They are global in their outlook.

I always say you must not forget your roots, however modern you are. Hopefully they will grow up to be people who are compassionate and caring. I think it is important for it to start with parents and the schools, to bring all of this back. To not look at each other as Indian, Chinese or Malay. We are Malaysians, kan?

Well said, Dato' Sheila Majid. I have always been a big FAN of her. And what she said is very true. We lived in harmony for the past 30 years. We knew we are of different races - Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, etc but yet, we stayed together as Malaysians.

Why is it now we have racial disharmony ? Why are we attacking one another ? Why are we so paranoid about stuff that we weren't paranoid ten years ago ? What happened to the good values which was instilled in us long ago ? Has everything been sacrificed for the sake of development ?

I do not know about you folks, but I darn sure not gonna let that happen in my family, no matter what. I hope whatever good values that I have learned, I will be able to pass it down to my children. Let make this world a better place, for we can't be letting our children suffer because of our stupidity...
